The new exhibition pavilion is made up of two architectural elements: the current modernist exhibition pavilion (designed by Albinas Čepys, 1969) and a new multi-purpose hall. The volume of the new hall is built in the inner yard of the pavilion, removed from the inner edge of the existing building, which creates a light, glass-covered passage around the universal hall with access to the pavilion’s facilities. The hall can be expanded into this passage by raising the movable walls. The new volume does not overwhelm the lively architectural composition of the dynamic and horizontal old pavilion. On the contrary, the static mirror cube in the courtyard reflects and highlights the wooden building structures, dissolving in the space.
